DOLCE & GABBANA CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF MENSWEAR

Dolce & Gabbana are preparing a huge series of events to celebrate 20 years of menswear. The “birthday party” will start on June 19th during the upcoming Men’s 2011 SS Fashion Week in Milan, and will continue for three days. A very special exhibition spanning the brands men’s collections will take place in Palazzo Marino and Piazza della Scala. After the private preview on June 18th and the official press opening the day after, the exhibition will be open to the public on June 20th. The fashion duo wants to involve all the whole city of Milan in their celebration, they are even planning for bars and cafes along Via Manzoni (Hotel De Milan Via Santa Margherita) to offer drinks to the pubblic during the events’ days!

Looking back, one cannot forget their first commemoration for the womenswear line, it was in 1996.... 10 years of fashion creation gave birth to a book that surprisingly enough was not written by the two designers but by contributors that freely expressed their idea of the Dolce&Gabbana woman and what this duo had brought into the fashion world. The book itself is a nod to their style as it features mainly black and white images as suggested by the cover. Inspired by the neo-realistic film era, one can read between the lines names like Visconti, Sophia Loren, Magnani. This book is very emotional, like the video showing interviews with celebrities and contributors such as Franca Sozzani, Carla Bruni, Monica Bellucci, and Kate Moss. In 1996, Stefano and Domenico could declare that they have been understood as fashion designers, today, their fame, their fashion empire, their worldwide recognized talent place the Dolce&Gabbana Man on top of the game: he is charming, elegant and has a style of its own.

Be nostalgic and watch the Dolce&Gabbana 10th anniversary in womenswear video , if things have changed it is only for the better.

Sarah Burton Named Creative Director at McQueen

After months of speculation following Alexander McQueen's February suicide, parent company Gucci Group has officially named a successor for the house. Sarah Burton, who joined the company in 1996, was named head of design for women’s wear in 2000, and served as McQueen’s first assistant until the time of his death.

“The creation of modern, beautifully crafted clothes was at the heart of Lee’s vision,” said Burton in a statement released today. “I intend to stay true to his legacy.” Burton was responsible for completing McQueenÊs nearly-finished collection for Fall 2010, which was presented via appointments in Paris in March.

“Having worked alongside Lee McQueen for more than 14 years, [Sarah] has a deep understanding of his vision, which will allow the company to stay true to its core values,” said Jonathan Akeroyd, president and CEO of Alexander McQueen. “As a business we remain absolutely committed to the Alexander McQueen company which has…shown to be a resilient brand in the aftermath of the tragic loss of its founder,” said president and chief executive of Gucci Group, Robert Polet. “Sarah has real talent, a close understanding of the brand and the vision necessary to take it forward.”

Louis Vuitton Maison by Peter Marino

New York architect Peter Marino has completed the new flagship Louis Vuitton Maison on London’s Bond Street, featuring glass windows lined with golden chainmail.
Called Louis Vuitton Maison, the interior walls are lined with silk wallpaper and glossy bamboo.

The shop features a sculpture by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami (below).
The New Bond Street Maison ranges over three floors and encompasses 1500 square metres of retail space at the junction of New Bond Street and Clifford Street. The New Bond Street Maison will be the most luxurious Louis Vuitton store to date, worldwide.
The New Bond Street Maison is conceived as the home of a collector who loves only the best and rarest. The ground floor is devoted to Louis Vuitton accessories and will include both original artworks from well-known names including, Richard Prince and Takashi Murakami, and exclusive products specially designed for the store. There are separate, circular zones for costume jewellery and sunglasses, and a private client room next to the high jewellery area.

Glass stairs to the lower ground floor open the way to the men’s universe, at the centre of which is the men’s club area where customers and their guests can relax.

The first floor is devoted to womenswear and shoes, in several intimate areas with generous and luxurious changing rooms. Also here is the unique Librairie which will showcase the best of British contemporary Art Books and bespoke commissions by artists including Anish Kapoor, Chris Ofili and Gary Hume.

The store’s second floor is a separate, luxurious world – the private client suite, which can only be accessed by invitation.

WORLD FAMOUS ARCHITECT - PETER MARINO

His signature look is full-on biker: black leather pants, boots, and cap, with a tight black T-shirt over bulging biceps, and often a pair of black shades. Architect and designer Peter Marino is a big motorcycle fan and a big New York personality.

He got his start in the mid-’70s, renovating the Upper East Side townhouse of Andy Warhol and the third “Factory.” Today, Marino is one of the biggest names in buildings. He’s designed more high-fashion boutiques in high-fashion capitals than any other architect in the business. The 59-year-old Marino won an AIA Institute Honor Award in 2007 for his semi-transparent Louis Vuitton boutique in Hong Kong, but he has received just as much attention for his Chanel Tower in the Ginza district of Tokyo, for which he introduced a new form of LED embedded glass. One of the secrets behind the man in black is his rare approach of treating design as an all-inclusive, one-stop shop: inside, outside, and everything in between gets the full Marino treatment. Lately he’s been working in the Middle East, where an influx of money and progressive aesthetics have allowed him to press his ideas into new shapes and heights. His large portfolio of work includes retail shops, hotels, private residences, and much more. He is one of the most well-rounded architects. Select famous clientele include Louis Vuitton (his latest work is LV Maison on Bond Street), Chanel, Andy Warhol, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, and many more.
